I've been to many of the high end apartments and condos here in Toronto. Every where from the trendy Young and Bloor area, to one of the Posh Palace Penthouses of King West; and as 'wonderful' as these places are, with their concierge and valet parking. Their fitness centers, conference halls, ballrooms, and recreation rooms. Their indoor pools, underground cities and subways. Their fine dinning restaurants, boutiques and in house salons. I wouldn't pay a penny for the view.
Being slightly retracted from the downtown core, I honestly get to see everything across the GTA, minus the East side from Jameson on down. But still what I see and the way I get to see it, is so fantastically splendorous, I wouldn't trade it for anyone of those prestigious addresses mentioned above.
Last night and interesting fog covered the majestic metropolis before my eyes. the entire CNTower was engulfed a thick blanketed mist, and the rain streamed down from the sky. I didn't even realize at first that it was raining because the lack of wind made the falling rain take its natural course straight down to the ground, with not a single wavering from it's path. The balcony was bone dry, and you had to look so close to see the rain, that even Anna didn't realize it at first. The odd thing is that it only lasted moments, and from behind the tower came the remaining rays of sunlight, lingering in the late evening sky.
The beginnings of a rainbow were appearing just beside the still standing windmill, across from the lake. As more of the sun began peeking through the clouds, it became full of color and pronounced, and I could actually see the end of the rainbow literally touching the ground behind the parking lot of Exhibition Stadium.
How often in life do you get to see the end of a rainbow? Anywhere? And there it was. Right in front of my eyes, touching the ground, and lending light to the trees behind it. It was beautiful. A special attraction and a moment I will never forget, when I actually saw the end of a rainbow, for the first time in my life.
Being as it was rather late, and the sun was only giving its last glimmers of light before disappearing into dusk, you could see the shining lights of those high prices buildings. Their glittering green windows, like an emerald city under the lighted towers presence, making it's way back into the skyline.
The other side of the rainbow came into light, as it shone its colorful rays behind a big red building to the north west of us. Ending, I think, somewhere around Little Portugal. The fog of the rain far north, still hanging blue in the air, I started humming the song, 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'
Metaphoric though it was, I couldn't help but wonder if the words of the song were true?
Here I was at the end of the rainbow, looking straight into the Emerald City.
Over the rainbow, the skies were blue; but will all the the dreams that I dare to dream really come true?
Here I sit at another precipice of my life, with all my troubles and may cares behind me. A new city, a new beginning, and whole new future that awaits me.
Feeling a bit like Dorothy, a small country girl in strange land, I set foot on the yellow brick road. With my 2 munchkins and my little dog Puggy, where will the road lead us? To paths unknown?
I can't be entirely certain at this point; but no matter where the road will guide me, there's no place like home!
