For those of who read my blog, you may remember I recently made a post about an apartment I was looking into getting out on the lake. Well, after more than 2 weeks of doing financial back flips, and loads of invasive paper work, I finally decided enough was enough, and withdrew my application to look somewhere else.
With only 2 weeks until September 1st, I had to act fast and pulled out all the stops. I pent hours driving around looking at for rent signs in the area. Poured over the internet at various listings and websites. I even contacted a friend in the rel estate biz to do some searching for me.
I spent a full day in my selected parts of the city, looking at dive after dive in our limited price range, until at last I found it. The best 2 bedroom I could afford. With spacious rooms, a clean well appointed kitchen, spotless bathroom, and terrific veiws of the city and lake front.
The kitchen and bathroom may not seem like very interesting or eye catching features to most reading this; but believe you me, after seeing some of these other places, you just don't realize how very important they are! I had see bath tubs with peeling paint on the bottoms of them, all flaked off and looking almost dangerous to the bather, with their sharp protruding edges. Toilets where the back was literally broken in half. Poor patch jobs in the kitchen areas with appliances that looked like they were from stone ages, and had seen the battle fields war. Moldy base boards, moldy parquet flooring, peeling floor tiles, bars on windows, dark, dank scary hall ways you were afraid to walk through in the day light, bikes and BBQ's being chained to fire escapes so they wouldn't be stolen in the rough neighborhood, and so much more I can't even begin to tell you!
When I found this new place with it's secure underground parking, secure entry, 24 video and staff surveillance, the inside of the apartment itself, and the fantastic view- I knew I was HOME!
Our own street is fine, but you wouldn't want to go too far off in the dark of night, because the surrounding neighborhood is bit on the scetchy side of things. But the public school is right beside us, and the catholic school is just down the street, with in walking distance. I can take the TTC to school and my son has a before and after school program, so I can drop him off and pick him up later, with out having to worry about baby sitters or anything else. There is a seasonal pool outside for the kids to swim at. The CNE grounds, Midevil Times and Ontario Place are all just a 4 minute drive away. we have a picture perfect view of the CNTower from our living room window, on the 22nd floor, a great wide view of down town to the left, and I can see Toronto island, the Glof Ball at Ontario Place, and a great view of the marina and all of Lake Ontario off to the right, when I sit out on my balcony.
We're 10 minutes from down town Toronto, 15 minutes from Humber Lakeshore, and honestly, I just couldn't be happier (maybe if we were a bit closer to my school- but nothings perfect)
I picked up the keys just yesterday and we'll be moving in bits at a time over the course of the next few weeks.
The garage sale and selling of my large furnishings has been going well. I only have a few of my dressers to get rid of now, and then we're all set to move.
So I'm off to pack now, please enjoy the view from my living until I get a chance to come back again soon.
